SimGHOSTS Joins SESAM in Lebanon at 3rd Annual LAU Medical Simulation Conference


SimGHOSTS / SESAM Collaborated in Lebanon at the LAU Medical Simulation Conference

On March 24th and 25th in Beirut, Lebanon, the LAU Gilbert and Rose-Marie School of Medicine held its 3rd International Conference on Medical Education, under the patronage of His Excellency The President of The Lebanese Republic General Michel Aoun, which focused on Simulation for Education and Patient Safety. SimGHOSTS Founder Lance Baily and SimGHOSTS Vice President Ferooz Sekandarpoor were invited guests of the event and joined alongside friends from SESAM to provide numerous presentations on the use of simulation technologies to Lebanon's leading medical professionals.

Dr. Vanda Abi Raad, MD, MHPE Associate Professor of Anesthesiology Director and Clinical Simulation Center Co-Chair of the Scientific Committee helped co-chair the event alongside SESAM President Antoine Tesniere.  

Lance provided a talk about the past, present and future of healthcare simulation -- comparing his experiences coming into the new industry of healthcare simulation as a metaphor for where we are in relation to the use of simulation and performance recording for training purposes in other industries. Ferooz provided a talk about the history of SimGHOSTS, and why a simulation technology specialist is so important for the success of a healthcare simulation program. Lance also provided a workshop on becoming a hollywood director to expand the utilization of camera technologies to improve simulation program outcomes.

About the Lebanese American University Gilbert and Rose-marie Chagoury School of Medicine:

In line with the LAU Health Sciences Schools’ vision of developing a curriculum modeled after the highest quality standards of international medical education, a state-of-the-art innovative simulation center located in the Chagoury Health Sciences Center was inaugurated in August 2013 and is currently considered the largest one in Lebanon. The Clinical Simulation Center (LAU-CSC) is designed to support the interdisciplinary learning of LAU’s students from the Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine, Alice Ramez Chagoury School of Nursing, and School of Pharmacy.

These schools are among the first national and regional health sciences schools to integrate into their curriculums simulation technology, which has become the international standard for medical education, surgical training and professional development. LAU-CSC also serves the needs of the Lebanese American University Medical Center-Rizk Hospital (LAUMC–RH) as well as a resource to the larger health care community. The center is a certified American Heart Association International Training Center.
