How has SimGHOSTS made your work easier, better or more efficient in 2017?
By SimGHOSTS Board Member Billie Paschal
The SimGHOSTS Mission Statement reads: "SimGHOSTS, aka The Gathering Of Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialists, is an international US-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and institutions operating medical simulation technology and spaces through hands-on training events, online resources, and professional development." This leads to the Vision Statement: “SimGHOSTS envisions a healthcare education culture where people are empowered to use simulation technology to improve learning and patient care outcomes.” This means that every day we decide to do our part to create a valid technology that could change the outcome for patients around the world. This is our way of making the world a better place.
SimGHOSTS are asking you to make a tax-deductible donation to show your thanks and support for the work WE do that supports the work YOU do. Your donation will be supporting all Sim Techs in their efforts to create more professional, innovative, not to mention AWESOME, simulations for the health professionals of today and tomorrow. Tax deductible donations will help us all continue to do our part for patient safety and better patient care outcomes.
SimGHOSTS provide free access to some of our resources so that anyone can access information that may have made their job easier. Have you watched the plenary address by Dr. Amar Patel talking about the technologies that could become a new part of the Simulation Operations Specialist responsibility? All of the plenary presentations at SimGHOSTS conferences are recorded and can be viewed for free. The money saved on travel expenses would be a lovely donation to SimGHOSTS. Did you read the recent blog post about the free resource Airtable that can save the sim lab a chunk of change while making the Sim Tech's job of tracking easier? Will you spend some of your time over the holiday break catching up on the SimGHOSTS blog and other resources? Could you donate the savings from the coffee and lunches not being purchased during the break to keep these resources free for everyone? If you are not a subscriber and want to show your support, please consider purchasing a subscription. This too is tax-deductible and will provide you with access to even more resources.
SimGHOSTS subscribers have access to exclusive online resources that add value to their work. Did you use access to the library of position descriptions to help add another member to the team? How much time have you saved by using the forum to find a repair for that simulator that is out of warranty? What is the value of after-hours troubleshooting with someone on the weekend when no customer support was available? Finding a like-minded person that feels the same “pain” regarding dealing with faculty that have no idea what really goes into making an eight-hour clinical simulation day for their clinical group. That, my friend, is therapy! Consider the cost of a session with a certified therapist. If you have found that the value SimGHOSTS has provided you goes beyond the cost of your subscription, donate to say thank you.
As the year winds down and reflection on your professional year occurs, how has SimGHOSTS contributed to your success? Maybe you have experienced the benefits of a safe patient environment thanks to simulation? Show your thanks and support your professional community by donating to SimGHOSTS here.
