Pocket Nurse Scholarship SimGHOSTS 2018 USA Winners Announced!

06/20/2018

Continuing their wonderful support, Pocket Nurse has partnered with The Gathering of Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialists (SimGHOSTS) to provide scholarships to the 2018 USA Event occurring July 31 through August 3 at The Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Simulation (CHIPS) on the campus of The University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN.

Pocket Nurse (www.PocketNurse.com) is the world's leading supplier of medical supplies for education and simulation and a proud supporter of those operating medical simulation labs. For the fifth year in a row, Pocket Nurse is continuing its sponsorship of the SimGHOSTS symposium by providing two $1,500 scholarships to individuals/institutions in need. These scholarships are designed to support participation in the development and advancement of those operating medical simulation labs.

Applications were reviewed by representatives from SimGHOSTS and Pocket Nurse. Four finalists were shortlisted and the final decision came down to those who demonstrated a strong need for both professional development and financial support. We are happy to announce our two winners are Shellie Kirby and Leyouget Abebe Taye.

Shellie Kirby has been a full-time volunteer Simulation Technician in the Simulation Lab at UCHealth in Colorado Springs, Colorado since September 2018. Shellie assists with setting up and running simulations, SP education, video recording and editing, and is starting to train other volunteer simulation technologists. Shellie loves to be able to contribute to the hospital and her community and has demonstrated a keen interest in pursuing paid employment in a simulation technology role. She hopes that the training and networking at SimGHOSTS USA will help her to advance her skills so that she can help to train other volunteers at the UCHealth Simulation program.

Leyouget Abebe Taye is the Clinical Simulation Center Director at St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. SPHMMC is one of the largest medical schools in Ethiopia and has recently completed a renovation to provide a space for simulation-based clinical skills training for their nursing and medical education programs. Leyouget hopes to meet fellow simulation professionals and vendors at SimGHOSTS USA, and to update her knowledge on industry innovations and simulation program practices.

Thank you to all who applied as it was a very tough decision this year.
