Wish you could control four computers with one mouse?

Meece, Mice, Mouse.

Before getting started I want to personally thank my co-worker, Xavier Agee, for taking the lead on this project at UTHSC CHIPS.  During the early part of AV design a similar system was requested, but it fell upon deaf ears.  Xavier’s forethought and implementation has streamlined our control room operation.

Microsoft Mouse Without Borders is a product that makes you the captain of your computer fleet by allowing control of up to four computers from a single mouse and keyboard. All too often control rooms have limited desk space, yet tend to have numerous computers, monitors, touch panels, microphones and other ancillary equipment and supplies.  Limited workspace coupled with operating multiple systems is a daunting task.  As a direct result, an individual’s performance and efficiency will suffer and will therefore affect sim delivery.

Installing Mouse Without Borders allows all but one keyboard and mouse to be either removed or placed somewhere other than the work area, thus freeing up valuable space.  Additionally, the freedom to control multiple computers, up to 4, with one mouse/keyboard is a dream!  It creates efficiency by design.
The software also allows text to be copied/cut as well as files to be dragged and dropped across computers.  No more popping in the flash drive or downloading from the cloud.  If the file is on one computer simply move it to a desired location.

As with all software there are limitations.

  • Computers will need network access
  • Operating systems are Microsoft based and may not work with older versions
  • Institution IT security may block connections
  • File transfer speed is directly related to network transfer rate

Have fun and good luck!
