SimGHOSTS Simulation Champion Award Winner May 2019
Congratulations to the SimGHOSTS Simulation Champion for May: Myles Larson, Simulation Operations and Technology Coordinator at North Idaho College. This isn’t the only award Myles has won recently, as he was named Employee of the Month at NIC in January (pictured above). Myles was described as a pioneer by one colleague, and another colleague describes him as an invaluable asset to any simulation program. It is this high praise, considerable simulation technology skills, and Myles’ work ethic that earned him the nomination.
Myles started out as an IT Helpdesk Officer at North Idaho College but his creativity and advanced skills were of such use to the Simulation Center that he was quickly transitioned to to a simulation role. Putting his IT skills to good use, Myles single-handedly developed a virtual tour of the NIC Simulation Center. The tour attracted attention from leadership and other departments at NIC, leading to the development of tours for those departments as well. You can view the simulation center tour here.
Myles is known for his creative ability to manufacture or modify simulators to enhance learning experiences using his skills in 3D printing, electronics and programming. An examples of this is adding a central line capability to a Lucina manikin that allows for separate flushing and blood draws.
To complement his exceptional professional skills, Myles also demonstrates admirable qualities of altruism and generosity, volunteering with the Pacific Northwest Healthcare Simulation Collaborative and Idaho Simulation Network, and generously supporting his peers by answering queries and providing support.
Myles will receive an Award Certificate and a 3 month SimGHOSTS subscription for his nomination. Each July, voting for the Simulation Champion Trophy is opened featuring the monthly award winners from the previous 12 months. The winner is announced at our USA event in August and receives atrophy and a free registration to a Sim GHOSTS event of their choice the following year.
