SimGHOSTS Welcomes New Board Officer
SimGHOSTS is please to announce the appointment of William Enfinger as Officer of the Board.
William Enfinger is the Associate Director of Simulation Technology for MEDNAX, Inc, one of the nation’s largest healthcare groups. He is instrumental in bringing in situ simulation to neonatal, pediatric, and anesthesia practices in 40 states using a mobile platform designed to enhance the realism of medical training for quality, safety, and competency. The MEDNAX Simulation program is provisionally accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and is currently pending full accreditation status.
For the past ten years Will has been an active simulation enthusiast, firmly believing in the adage that “if you’re working, you’re doing something wrong”. Simulation is an absolute joy for Will and he is able to combine his penchant for art and performing with over 25 years of medical experience – ranging from emergency services to US Navy paramedicine, clinical research, medical writing, and formal instructing.
As he began to work for various nursing schools in Southern California, Will found that he had a gift for introducing these new methods into the curricula, training the faculty to better implement simulation and expand their programs, and creating realistic moulage for higher-level engagement. Will has shared his love of moulage and special effects to multiple audiences and can often be found randomly sculpting bullet wounds or wondering the best way to bruise someone’s face. He has conducted courses in medical moulage and simulation methodology for the US military, various universities, and regional simulation groups.
While a contractor with the US Air Force Medical Modeling and Simulation Training project (AFMMAST) Will was the Tier 1 (expert site) Simulation Operator –and temporary manager- for the Pacific Air Force (PACAF), a region covering eight sites in Japan, Korea, Guam, Hawaii and Alaska, responsible for “implementing simulation in every aspect of medical training”. It was during this time that he was selected to be part of a certification development board with SSH and was instrumental in the creation of the Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certificate.
Not long after, he had an opportunity to help create a new role at Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa and spent the following year contributing to the growth and development of The Iowa Simulation Center for Patient Safety and Clinical Skills. Mr. Enfinger has been recognized as a Distinguished CHEST Educator (DCE) by the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP/CHEST) since 2017 for his ongoing contributions as simulation faculty.
Will has a long history involvement with SimGHOSTS. He joined as an original member of the Gathering of Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialists (SimGHOSTS) and has previously served as a board member. Additionally he is active with SSH, and holds certification as a Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) and is pursuing his Simulation Education (CHSE) certificate. He also holds a certificate from the University of Southern Indiana, College of Nursing in Clinical Simulation.
