HSTS5101 Fundamentals of Training and Education
Event Date: 4/10/2017 - 4/11/2020
Education and training is a huge field so this course will focus on adult learning as it is the most relevant to the healthcare simulation setting. To start we will work through adult learning concepts and then explore simulation methodology and some related learning theories so that you can see how simulation fits into adult learning. The course will conclude with some methods for applying adult learning concepts to your work in a simulation program. This will help you to teach others how to use simulation equipment and will help you to provide feedback to learners.
This course is designed to give a broad overview of adult education, simulation education, simulation modalities and provide practical application of adult learning principles to the role of the Simulation Technologist. For those of you who are involved in or would like to know more about scenario development or debriefing, other SimGHOSTS courses will go into more detail about adult education theory and application, simulation methodology, instructional design, and simulation debriefing models.
This course features a practical assessment. You will be guided through the process of planning an educational activity such as teaching somebody how to use an item of equipment. You will be assessed on a 500 word summary of the planning, implementation and review of the activity. You have six months from course registration to complete the course and submit the assessment.
