The Gathering of Technicians, or GOT SIM, was founded in 2011 by Lance Baily, the founding Director of the Clinical Simulation Center of Las Vegas. Lance got his start in healthcare simulation as a simulation technology specialist for the LA Community College district before being hired to manage the Clinical Simulation Center of Las Vegas (CSCLV). Lance “found his calling” with healthcare simulation where he combined his love of computer technology, programming, audiovideo production, experiential learning and Fire/EMS healthcare training. Having traveled the world to tour healthcare simulation labs and attend healthcare simulation meetings, Lance wanted to do more to support the unique jack-of-all-trades profession that is “Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialist”.
Just prior to SimGHOSTS, Lance started HealthySimulation.com in 2010 to provide a free and independent resource website to the international healthcare simulation community. Entering the second year, the GOT SIM meeting became an official non-profit organization after changing its name to SimGHOSTS or “The Gathering Of Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialists”. Additional support for the formation and operation of this new annual meeting to continue outside of the CSCLV has also come from Kam McCowan and John Cordova, and had founding sponsorship from B-Line Medical and Pocket Nurse. Year three moved the event to the San Antonio College School of Nursing and Allied Health Building with coordination provided by Simulation Technician, Joe Crain.
In late 2013 the organization was approved as a tax-exempt 501(c)3 educational based charitable entity by the US Federal IRS. This meant SimGHOSTS could continue its mission to provide educational support to Sim Techs, apply for federal grants, and receive charitable donations!
In 2014, SimGHOSTS not only repeated its now famous North American event at the American College of Chest Physicians, but also successfully added another international event down under! Hosted by the University of the Sunshine Coast, SimGHOSTS was praised as event dedicated to supporting those who operate simulation technologies. Also in 2014, SimGHOSTS President James Cypert signed the first affiliation agreement with UK's ASPiH: The Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare -- where the planning for a jointly operated 3rd international SimGHOSTS UK was also announced as "in the works"!
2015 Symposiums continued to expand taking place across the globe with two new locations - Dubai thanks to support from Simulead and UK thanks to our partnership with ASPiH. 2015 also saw the launch of our much anticipated online course program.
In 2016, SimGHOSTS focused on its USA, UK, and Australia events supporting over 350 Simulation champions around the world, while simultaneously launching a new website to connect the global community together through discussion groups, courses, and recorded sessions. In 2016 SimGHOSTS became affiliated with major international simulation and healthcare organizations including SSH, INACSL, GNSH, HIMSS, IPSS, Simulation Australia, ASPiH and more!
Stay tuned for 2017 events coming to a region near you!
